I saw a commercial on AMC this morning for Mad Men, a show about the advertising in industry in the '60s. The show has already received 16 Emmy nominations this year and I wonder why? All the characters on the show are well dressed men. The show takes us back to an era when appearance was number one; when a majority of men took pride in wearing a well tailored suit or casualware. The '60s were elegant times and men who watch the show realize this. Slim-cut suits were in.

Mad Men, which returns to AMC this Sunday for its second season, is set in
the sleek world of advertising in 1960s New York. Where offices such as Sterling
Cooper have no need for such quaint modern-day notions as political correctness
or casual Friday. Where no man is complete without the morning paper, his tie
and a post-lunch Scotch. [Valet]

I want to say Entourage is more the Sex and the City for men, just in terms of the way it accurately depicts a male group dynamic in everyday life and language. In terms of dress, Mad Men might be ahead of the pack. After your statement, I've decided I have to watch this show. I was already interested considering all the buzz around it.

Having watched the show regularily, I must disagree. To me the most fascinating characters are the women, who really stand out. Look at Peggy the secretary climbing her way up in the business, or the model turned housewife Betty who is equal parts chilling and alluring, not to mention Midge Daniels who is a thoroughly modern woman hanging with beatniks and passing lovers around like party favors. Yes they are stereotypes from the 1960s, but isn't that point of the show to take a second look at these supposedly idyllic lives of the 60s?
